it is of course the coward that has a predilection to make panels like these. I always feel like i'm cheating in a sense, when I'm making a 'creepy' panel that is really dark and features red, but then, we're just programmed as living beings to be weary of those things.

We fear the darkish colors because they remind us of what we see when we close our eyes and are unconscious. Mostly its the fear of suffocation. Dark being the only thing you see.
As well as the color red, which symbolizes your own blood. It is understood by our basic comprehension that when we see red, it seems as someone is injured or sick.
We fear to be sick, or injured. Therefore, we are afraid of red.
